This review relates directly to the most recent visit to this store. I shop at Independent Barrhaven every week and for the most part I find it to be a decent store. This Saturday I purchased chicken legs that happen to be on sale and after returning from work at 6:00pm on Monday I opened the package to start preparing them and once the package was opened the worst smell you could imagine came up from the package!! The chicken legs were rancid and now I had 3 children waiting for dinner and I had nothing I could prepare as everything else was frozen. Off to the store to return them at approx. 6:30 which I really did not want to have to do...the cost of gas, my time and this was not the first time this has happened....A few months ago the same thing happened to me, I bought chicken legs that were on sale and they were bad as well. Once i got to the store to return them the girl at the cash had said I was not the first one to return them!!! I spoke with the meat manager and he apologized and said he would look into it, just as we were finishing our conversation Mr. Ross came over to speak to him I presume finding out what the problem was. He never asked me or apologized or even offered me some sort of compensation.....I was purchaing a small prepared salad, I think I would have offered the salad as complimentary if I were the manager.... Thought this should be brought to the attention of Your Independent Grocer...looking into a new supplier for chicken legs might be worth it as I will not buy chicken legs again, what was an inexpensive meal turned into more then I thought after I had to drive back to the store and then home again!

I bought ground meat here on a side stop from future shop. Got home, (hour long bus ride) and immediately open the meat. Looks good at first but it was actually rotting from the inside out. I just got off the phone with the manager and at suspected, i can not return at a more convienant location. He also refused to offer me any kind of apology. Either in the way of saying sorry or by agreeing that my time is worth more than 5 dollars an hour (10 meat, 2 hrs bussing) and giving me some sort of in store credit to make up for the enormous inconvenience. IF YOU VALUE THE QUALITY OF FOOD OR CUSTOMER SERVICE, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. Would be zero stars had that been an option.
